Why Indian people avoid Online Shopping?
Online shopping has a great growth in India. According to a report by Google, there has been an increase of 128% in online shopping this year from 2011-2012. It was only 40% in 2010-2011. The most successful category is of electronic. After it we have apparels and accessories, books, beauty products, home & furnishing, baby products and health care. Baby product is the most growing categoery for online shopping.
But there are some problems that make Indians avoid online shopping. Some of them are inability to touch and try before purchasing, fear of faulty products, fear of sharing personal and financial information online and inability to bargain. These are some factors effect online shopping industry to increase its growth.
Rajan Anandan, vice president and managing director of Google India, said "By looking at the trends in 2012, we expect 2013 to be a strong growth year for players who're focused on fast growing categories like apparels & accessories and niche product categories like baby products, home furnishings & health-nutrition. We expect the growth to come from outside of top 8 metros as was evident in our recently concluded Great Online Shopping Festival, which saw over 51% of traffic from non-metros."
